What is LIQUID TEXTS?
The contents of books and bottles are intimately connected.
With this blog, I want to explore how human creativity is expressed through both liquids and texts, bringing what we pour into conversation with what we write. To distil or brew, to make perfume or wine, is to build worlds every bit as rich and engaging as any found within works of speculative fiction.
Desires, beliefs, thought experiments, utter silliness – the best beverages are layered with reference and meaning. The goal should not be to reduce these to scores or ratings but to make connections, to dive down the worm holes.
Drinks arise from soils, microorganisms, gases, plants and – crucially – people. They speak of the planet on which we belong, one that is rapidly changing. They inspire stories that can encompass the entire universe and, like all great literature, they reflect an ethics of how we can live within it.
Who am I?
I’m a literature graduate and whisky blender for Compass Box. I like jumping off points, context, and artfully terrible puns. The views I express on this site are not those of Compass Box necessarily – this is a creative space just for me.
